Overview

BFKN is pleased to congratulate partner William J. Barrett, who was presented with the award for “Excellence in Pro Bono and Public Interest Service" for a second time by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. This is the fourth consecutive year which the Court has honored BFKN’s pro bono work with this prestigious award.

“Bill is a great lawyer and partner on so many levels, not the least of which is his deep and abiding commitment to pro bono work. It comes as no surprise that he is being recognized by the court for the second time with such a prestigious and well-deserved award.”
Howard J. Kirschbaum, Managing Partner

Judge A. Benjamin Goldgar, on behalf of all of the judges of the United States Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of Illinois, nominated Bill for his work in representing Thomas F. Longeway. The award was presented at the Twenty-first Annual Excellence in Pro Bono and Public Interest Service Award Ceremony on September 9, 2021 at the Everett M. Dirksen U.S. Courthouse in Chicago.

Bill is a senior member of the Firm's Bankruptcy & Creditor Rights Group. In recent years Bill has focused his practice on representing secured creditors, landlords, franchisors, suppliers, avoidance action defendants, and asset purchasers in Chapter 11 cases and other insolvency proceedings.
