Repercussions from last year’s bank failures, heightened regulatory scrutiny of fintech and other third-party relationships, as well as the continued slow-down in capital and M&A transactions, have created new challenges that banks must now address, on top of all the other issues already on their plate. This session features an executive briefing on current legal and regulatory issues and trends affecting financial institutions. The focus will be on practical suggestions and best practices taken from long-time experience in representing a large and diverse banking practice. At the end of this session, participants should understand the key legal and compliance challenges they are likely to face in the coming year

About the Lawyers
Rob is a co-chair of BFKN’s Financial Institutions Group. Rob focuses his practice on serving financial institutions in all their corporate needs, including advising them on their strategic transactions, general contracts, corporate governance, and their continued compliance with federal and state securities laws, reporting under the Securities Exchange Act. Rob has been fortunate enough to develop deep relationships with the clients he serves and has represented many of those clients as outside counsel for over a decade.
John is a nationally recognized banking attorney who advises financial institutions on regulatory, governance, and investigative matters. He regularly provides focused training sessions to boards and management on a wide range of legal and risk management topics. Working at the forefront of banking law and regulation, John is a thought leader in the field, primarily through teaching, writing, and frequent media interviews. As the Regulatory Section Leader of BFKN’s Financial Institutions Group, John advises a wide variety of financial institutions around the country about the full spectrum of legal, regulatory, and supervisory issues that they face. He is a frequent speaker and author in the financial institutions area on issues surrounding banking regulations, examinations, and enforcement actions, as well as cybersecurity. John devotes significant time to anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, and related national security issues. In this regard, he lectures and advises institutions around the country, engages with relevant organizations, and has published on the subject.
