Action Items

  • Familiarize itself, including its COVID-19 response team, with the COVID-19 "Employer Information for Banks Guidance"1 recently released by the Centers for Disease Control (“CDC”).
  • Stay updated on additional guidance from federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Consult with legal advisors and/or occupational health and safety professionals about any unique circumstances.

As Banks continue to progress through local and state reopening phases, the CDC has published specific guidance intended to help Banks mitigate the risk of COVID-19 (coronavirus) transmission in the workplace. Below are the key highlights of the CDC "Employer Information for Banks:"

  • Create a COVID-19 workplace health and safety plan for your Bank, in consultation with the CDC "Interim Guidance for Businesses and Employers."2
  • Identify where and how employees might be exposed to COVID-19 in your work locations by conducting a hazard assessment and identifying areas with potential for close contact (whether with the general public or other employees).
  • Identify and designate an on-site person to respond if a health inspector arrives and makes inquiries.
  • Monitor social media for posts and content about the Bank relating to COVID-19.
  • In consultation with CDC guidance,3 determine a testing and contact tracing strategy for use if/when an employee tests positive for COVID-19.
  • Develop hazard controls for your work locations (including strategies such as isolation, distancing, health checks, schedule adjustments, remote work, and sanitation).
  • Educate employees and supervisors about their role in protecting themselves and their co-workers – both at work and at home.
