Overview

Kendo Holdings Inc., an affiliate of Sephora and a member of the LVMH Group, closed a deal with pop singer Rihanna for the creation and launch of a full line of cosmetics. This is the latest major cosmetics project that Kendo has undertaken following its acquisitions of Ole Henriksen and Bite Beauty and its development of the Kat Von D Beauty and Marc Jacobs Beauty brands. The new makeup brand, Fenty Beauty by Rihanna, has been so well received that TIME magazine named it one of the 25 best inventions of 2017.

What makes Fenty Beauty stand out in the crowded beauty industry is its complexion-focused cosmetic collection. Comprised of sheer formulas, Fenty Beauty offers a large number of matte and shimmer shades and finishes designed to accommodate a wide variety of skin tones and types. Rihanna plays a key role in developing the line, infusing her influence, style and diverse inclusivity into the Fenty Beauty products to help drive the brand's success.

Barack Ferrazzano acted as lead counsel for Kendo in the negotiation and documentation of this strategic collaboration with Rihanna and the launch of the brand, and continues to handle the intellectual property matters for the brand. Barack Ferrazzano’s legal team was led by Daniel L. Dominguez and Wendi E. Sloane, along with Peter J. Barack, Scott J. Slavick, Megan G. Ratia, Sharon E. Calhoun and Thomas M. Gniot.
