Rob Shapiro Comments on Syrian Airstrikes & Putin's True Objectives
Barack Ferrazzano partner Rob Shapiro appeared on CLTV's Polictics Tonight to discuss President Obama's and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's differing policies in Syria following a surprise series of Russian airstrikes on Syria just days after the two leaders met and spoke before the United Nations. The White House believes building a U.S. led coalition to combat ISIS forces in Syria and Iraq is the key to helping the Syrian people, whereas Russia's stance is that it is best to assist the Syrian government's efforts against ISIS. Rob comments that the recent airstrikes not only send a direct message to the U.S. and the international community, but also reveal Putin's true objectives which are to solidify his position among his allies, particularly Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and to further not only Russia's international and military standing, but also Putin's political image around the world.
